Based around the town of Épernay in the Champagne region, the house annually produces around 110,000 cases of Champagne. Pol Roger was born on 24 December 1831, the son of a lawyer. Beginning as a wholesaler of wine, he started his own champagne house in 1849, with the first growths released in 1853. The owners of Pol Roger are members of the Primum Familiae Vini. Pol Roger holds the current Royal Warrant as purveyors of champagne to Queen Elizabeth II.

Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2004 Champagne is derived from the traditional assembly house Pol Roger: 60% Pinot Black, 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers Crus of the "Montagne de Reims" and "Côte des Blancs ".

The exact composition of this Cuvée is a family secret but it is likely that Pinot Noir dominates 70-80% of the blend with the rest being Chardonnay. The grapes are all from Grand Cru vineyards which were under vine during Churchills lifetime and it is only made in the very best vintages.
